Denmark suporting justice in Uganda

04.12.2015  07:18

The Chief Justice welcomed Amb. Mogens to Uganda and expressed appreciation of the long standing partnership between the Danish Embassy and the Judiciary which spans for two decades. The Danish Embassy is currently providing bilateral support to Judiciary to implement judicial reforms and to promote the rule of law.

Among the key issues discussed were delays in case disposal which lead to build up of case backlog in the courts and congestion in the prisons; challenges of access to justice for the poor and the vulnerable especially in Northern Uganda; efforts to address corruption in the Judiciary; and the strategies that are in place to maintain and protect the independence of the Judiciary.

The Ambassador assured the Chief Justice of continued cooperation between the two agencies to strengthen the capacity of the Judiciary to effectively deliver its mandate and to implement key reforms to address the existing challenges.
