Denmark and Uganda Unite for Local Impact on Danish Constitution Day 2025
Partnerships in action: Our People’s Meeting in Kampala
This year’s Constitution Day was the backdrop for our annual Uganda–Denmark Partnership Day — a celebration of collaboration, learning, and shared vision. The residence came alive with over 500 guests, including partner organizations, government representatives, and key stakeholders, all gathered for a dynamic day of exchange and engagement.
Inspired by the concept of a “mini people’s meeting” (mini-folkemøde), this year’s event was designed to foster informal dialogue and learning across sectors. Instead of a traditional stage, we placed a bonfire at the centre — a symbolic gathering point that encouraged conversation and community.
In Uganda, the word ekyoto means bonfire. It represents a place where people come together to share knowledge, stories, and lived experiences. This idea resonated deeply with both the Ugandan and Danish elements of the day, making the bonfire a perfect crosscutting symbol of dialogue and connection.
Spread throughout the garden were four thematic tents, each highlighting a key area of partnership: local fundraising, learning from the private sector, collaborating with local government, and getting to know Denmark.
Each tent featured an engaging line-up of activities organised and executed in collaboration with our partners. The programme included panel debates, coaching sessions, Q&A drop-in desks, coffee cupping, a surprise flash mob, tree planting and much more, trying to mimic the diversity and energy of the programme of the ‘Folkemøde’ at Bornholm.
The day was marked by engaging conversations, active networking, and mutual learning. With high levels of participation and energy from all our partner organisations, this year’s Partnership Day highlighted the value of coming together and co-creating to strengthen our partnerships.
